The University of Minnesota has a long and deep connection with China. The first students from China arrived in 1914, and there have been more than 10,000 Chinese alumni in more than 100 years that have followed. The U of M was one of the first universities to renew exchanges and partnerships after China re-opened in 1979.
The University of Minnesota Alumni Association in China (UMAA China) is founded in 1985. Now, there are more than 5,000 U of M alumni working and living in China. To better engage our Gopher community in China, five official alumni chapters in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Hong Kong continuously host events for local alumni engagement and development.
