Liu Qingsong earned his bachelor degree and master degree in geophysics from China University of Geosciences in 1996. In 1999, Liu received a doctorate of science from Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 2004, he received a doctorate degree from the Department of Geology and Geophysics at the University of Minnesota.
After graduation, Liu completed his post-doctorate research at Department of Earth & Planetary Sciences, University of California-Santa-Cruz. After that, Liu received the European Union Marie-Curie Fellowship and conducted research in Department of Ocean and Earth Science and National Oceanography Center at University of Southampton in England.
In 2007, Liu was selected into the “Hundred Talents Program” of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and was employed as a researcher and a supervisor of doctoral candidates at Institute of Geology and Geophysics of Chinese Academy of Sciences. Liu has been engaged in research of archaeomagnetism, rock magnetism, and environment magnetism, etc.
