Jia Jian, born in 1914, graduated from Central University in agricultural economics. Then he started teaching at the university and in 1943, he received a master’s degree in agriculture still from Central University. Jia came to the University of Minnesota in 1948, and received a master’s degree in agricultural economics in 1949.
After returning to China, Jia first taught at Wuhan University, and then during 1953-1987, he served as a professor and dean of the department of agricultural economics at Huazhong Agricultural University.
In addition to teaching and his administrative duties as a dean, Jia also served as a standing board member of Chinese Association of Agricultural Ecnomics, researcher at Agricultural Development Research Center of the State Council, and president of Agricultural Economics Society in Hubei province, etc. In 1989, Jia was elected to receive the honor of “Elite of Science and Technology” in Hubei, and in 1992, he received the special allowance from the State Council.
